Department Of Uro-Oncology And Minimally Invasive Urology

The educational, scientific, and clinical activities of the Clinic are based in two locations: the Clinical Department of Urology at the Bielański Hospital in Warsaw, and the Department of Urology at the European Health Center in Otwock. The Clinical Department at Bielański Hospital offers 20 beds and provides full-spectrum urological care for both elective and emergency patients (24-hour emergency duty), with a particular emphasis on minimally invasive techniques such as endoscopy, laparoscopy, and robotic surgery using the da Vinci system.

The Department at ECZ Otwock also has 20 beds and focuses primarily on oncological surgery using the da Vinci robot and laparoscopy. Over the past three years, we have seen a systematic increase in the number of robot-assisted procedures, particularly for prostate, kidney, and bladder cancer.

The Clinic offers 15 residency training positions across both locations. Additionally, the Urology Department at ECZ is accredited by the prestigious European Board of Urology (EBU).

Number of robotic surgeries performed in the past three years:
2022: 169 → 2023: 403 → 2024: 621

These results position our Clinic as the national leader in robot-assisted surgeries in Poland, reflecting the high quality of care and excellent organization of the medical team.

Educational Activities

  • Specialization courses: Core topics including Introduction to Urology, Uro-oncology, Neurourology, and Geriatrics
  • Training workshops in laparoscopy and robotic surgery
  • Uro-oncology refresher courses for general practitioners
  • Public lectures in cooperation with the „GLADIATOR” Association for Men with Prostate Diseases

Scientific Activities – Key Topics

  • Improving the diagnosis and treatment of genitourinary cancers
  • Research on the epidemiology of bladder, kidney, and prostate cancer
  • The role of peritumoral adipose tissue in clear cell renal cell carcinoma
  • The role of imaging in staging prostate cancer
  • Use of artificial intelligence in the diagnosis of prostate cancer
  • Tumor-secreted proteins as potential biomarkers in kidney cancer
  • Cytokines secreted by peritumoral fat in ccRCC as potential regulators of microRNA expression involved in cancer development and progression

Clinical Activities

The Clinic is a highly specialized medical and research unit operating within the multi-specialty Bielański Hospital in Warsaw and the European Health Center in Otwock. We provide comprehensive treatment for diseases of the genitourinary system, with particular emphasis on cancer. We are equipped with modern diagnostic and therapeutic infrastructure and staffed by well-trained medical and nursing personnel.

For years, we have specialized in minimally invasive methods of urological treatment, particularly laparoscopy and endoscopy, which significantly reduce hospitalization and recovery time. These procedures are enhanced with laser techniques and the da Vinci robotic system, available at both sites.

Routine procedures include radical cystectomy, radical prostatectomy, radical and partial nephrectomy, pyeloplasty, and a wide range of endoscopic procedures for bladder cancer (TURBT), benign prostatic hyperplasia (TURP, TURPiS, HoLEP), and urolithiasis (URSL, RIRS, PCNL, ECIRS, ESWL). Outpatient services include cystoscopy and fusion-guided biopsy, which is standard for qualifying patients for robotic radical prostatectomy.
