Department of Epidemiology and Health Promotion

One of the main tasks of the Department is to participate in the training of medical personnel, specialists in the field of health care, and to conduct courses for doctors in public health.

Educational activities

Basic tasks of the unit:

  • Conducting uniform specialization courses Prevention and Health Promotion and Public Health for doctors of all specialties;
  • Conducting training courses for doctors specializing in public health;
  • Conducting scientific and popular science lectures on the main health problems of various stakeholders in the health care system.

Scientific activities

Main research directions:

  • Health needs of patients with diabetes mellitus – analysis of reported needs, the degree to which they are met, and attitudes toward preventive measures, including preferred sources of information and channels of communication about health issues;
  • Analysis of causes of hospitalization for ocular diseases and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and characteristics of patients with these;
  • The incidence and prevalence of hypertension in Poland;
  • Incidence and prevalence of cardiomyopathies in Poland.
Scientific cooperations

Cooperation with institutions and organizations working in the field of public health at home and abroad, in particular:

  • Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology – since 2017, concerns the evaluation of mental health programs;
  • National Institute of Public Health – National Institute of Hygiene – PIB – since 2021, concerns standards for planning and evaluation of health programs (health policy programs)…;
  • Leon Kozminski Academy in Warsaw, Warsaw School of Social Psychology, Warsaw Medical University, as part of the project Building trust in immunization with the use of the latest tools of communication and social influence, which is part of the Strategic program of scientific research and development work entitled: Social and economic development of Poland in conditions of globalizing markets GOSPOSTRATEG II, subsidized by NCBiR;
  • L’Institut national d’études démographiques (Ined), Universidade Aberta, Lisboa and with Ioannina University, Greece as part of the Certification of Causes of Death in Europe (CODA-EU) project, Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership;
  • European Society of Cardiology;
  • University of Galway, Ireland.
