Department of Medical Law and Medical Jurisprudence

The main task of the Department is to participate in the training of medical staff, including physicians, dentists, nurses and midwives, pharmacists and other health professionals, as well as providing courses for physicians and dentists in the field of public health specialisation.

Educational activities

Basic tasks of the unit:

  • Conducting uniform specialist courses in Medical Jurisprudence and Medical Law for physicians of all specialties;
  • Conducting training for physicians specializing in public health;
  • Conducting lectures on legal regulations concerning the healthcare system and medical law, including since 2012, the School of Medical Law.

Scientific activities

Main research directions:

  • Medical professions. Study of expanding professional competences and independence.
  • Analysis of the cooperation of physicians and dentists with other medical professions.
  • Safety of the patient and persons providing health services, including preparation of standards and procedures, exemplary solutions to prevent adverse events.
  • Legal aspects of vaccinations.
  • Activity of local government units in implementing public health tasks.
Scientific cooperations

Cooperation with institutions and organizations operating in the field of public health in the country and abroad, in particular with:

  • Medical University of Białystok – expert lectures on medical law,
  • Warsaw School of Economics, College of Economics and Social Sciences, Department of Innovation in Healthcare – in the field of health policy research,
  • University of the National Education Commission in Krakow, Department of Policy and Social Research – disability in an interdisciplinary approach,
  • Kozminski University in Warsaw, the University of Social Psychology in Warsaw, the Medical University of Warsaw as part of the project Building trust in protective vaccinations using the latest communication tools and social influence, which is part of the strategic research and development program entitled: Social and economic development of Poland in the conditions of globalizing markets GOSPOSTRATEG II, co-financed by the National Center for Research and Development;
  • L’Institut national d’études démographiques (Ined), Universidade Aberta, Lisboa and Ioannina University, Greece within the Certification of Causes of Death in Europe (CODA-EU) project, Strategic Partnership Erasmus+;
  • District Medical Chambers – mediation in doctor-patient relations.
